Talkify / AI Receptionist / Place names
Māori · Aboriginal · Torres Strait Islander · Spelt right, said right

Your callers say Ngāruawāhia. So does your receptionist.

Most phone AI was built somewhere the place names are easy. Talkify was built here. It hears Whangārei, Ōtāhuhu, Paekākāriki and Woolloomooloo the way your customers say them, writes them down spelt right, reads the address back before it books anything, and says the name properly in a real New Zealand voice.

The name is the whole job.

A receptionist who cannot hear where a caller lives cannot book the job, cannot send the van, and cannot help sounding like it was built somewhere else. So this is where Talkify starts, not where it finishes.

Spelt right, macrons and all.

Ōtāhuhu is written Ōtāhuhu. Whangārei is Whangārei. The address that lands in your calendar, your job system and your text summary is the one your customer would write themselves, not a guess at it with the vowels missing.

Read back before it counts.

Every address is read back to the caller before anything is booked or sent, the way a careful person on the desk would do it. When it is not sure it heard a name right, it asks for the suburb or the town rather than sending somebody to the wrong one.

Two towns, one street.

A Kaharoa Road in Ngāruawāhia and one in Rotorua is a question, not a coin toss. The caller is asked which, and only the part that differs is said.

Said the way you say it.

Next to any name you can write how it sounds, and the voice follows. How Taupō is said on your phone is your decision.

Your patch, already known.

The suburbs your customers actually live in come in from your own address book, and you add the streets, marae and landmarks only you deal with.

Built for names that are easy to say and hard to hear.

In New Zealand that is te reo Māori. In Australia it is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander names people use every day without a second thought: Maroochydore, Woolloomooloo, Toowoomba, Wagga Wagga. The same care, either side of the Tasman, in voices from the right side of it.

TalkifyRuakākā, lovely. What's the street and number out there?
Caller · Sunshine CoastIt's the unit block on Maroochydore Road, near the roundabout.
TalkifyMaroochydore Road, got it. Which number, and is there a unit I should note for the driver?
Caller · KāpitiPaekākāriki. Nobody ever gets that one.
TalkifyPaekākāriki it is. I've got you at 6 Beach Road, Paekākāriki. Is that right?

Try it on the hardest words you know.

This is a claim you can check in under a minute, which is why the number is on the page. Ring 03 242 1262, give it your street and your suburb, and ask it to read them back. Then try the same call with anyone else on your shortlist, if they publish a number at all.

Frequently asked.

The questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, ring our live demo agent on 03 242 1262, it'll either answer or queue a callback from a human.

Will it get Māori place names right?
Yes. It listens for the names on your patch, writes them down spelt properly, macrons included, reads the address back to the caller before anything is booked, and says the name the way it should be said. A caller who lives in Ōtāhuhu hears Ōtāhuhu, not a guess at it.
What about the names on my patch that nobody outside town has heard of?
You tell it. In the agent builder you list the suburbs, streets, marae and landmarks your callers actually say, and it learns them. It gives you a head start from your own address book, so the places your customers already live in are there before you type a thing, and you add the rest in a minute. Your own names are the ones that matter most, and those are the ones it knows best.
What happens when a street name exists in two towns?
It asks. If there is a Kaharoa Road in Ngāruawāhia and one in Rotorua, the caller is asked which, naming only the part that differs. It never picks one and hopes. When it is not sure it heard a name right, it asks for the suburb or town rather than sending a van to the wrong one.
Does it work in Australia?
Yes. An Australian agent answers in Australian voices and learns the names on your patch the same way, from you and from your address book, so Maroochydore, Woolloomooloo and Wagga Wagga come through as your customers say them. Every address is read back before it is used.
Can I tell it how a name should be said?
Yes. Next to each name you can write how it sounds, and the voice follows you. Local pronunciation is your call, not ours, and a business in Taupō gets to decide how Taupō is said on its own phone.
How can I check this before I sign up?
Ring the demo line and say the hardest names you know: your street, your suburb, your surname. Ask it to read them back. It takes a minute and it tells you more than this page can.
